TSTR #68 Favorite Things

This week's challenge at The Shabby Tea Room is to use our favorite things.  Oh what a fun challenge!  : )

I was organizing my crafting space and found this VLV sketch from Charmaine that I ran out of time to do back in May.  So I thought I'd use that as my layout basis since I had just a few pieces of one of my favorite papers left and I could use up most of them in this card.  (I really am trying to use up some up my stash!  Really!)

Here's the sketch.  I ended up omitting the banner at the bottom of the oval as it just wasn't working for me!

The dps I used are the two different sides of a single sheet from one of the papers in the Making Memories "Je t'adore" line.  I was thinking about my Mom a lot as I was making this card.  Two of her favorite things in life were her flower beds and music.  Unfortunately, I don't live close enough to maintain her flower beds, and they are now full of weeds.  Weeds or not, I still enjoyed the flowers that were there, and I took some pictures of them when I visited Dad last weekend.

The sentiment on the card is one of my favorites from Verve's "Beautiful You" and is stamped in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  After losing Mom so suddenly, it reminds me to enjoy life each and every day.  I made some pink felt rolled roses using a Sizzix die called "Flowers, 3D" and punched some leaves with two different MS punches.  If you've ever visited my blog before, you know that adding flower embellishments is a favorite of mine along with the colors pink and green!  I also used my SU! photo corners punch.

I took a picture from the side so you can see the dimension that the roses give.

Thanks TSTR for a fun challenge and thanks for stopping by!
Blessings!
Sarah

  3. I just love your card. I have been hoarding that same paper since it is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your story about your mother. Mine is gone and I try to share my love for her thru my roses. It is so true to live each day carefully and fully.
