I'm back with a card I created for two challenges. First is the Shining the Light Challenge #102 at ODBD which was to use our favorite stamp set. The second challenge is for Papertake Weekly's anything goes challenge.
I had intened to play along last week with ODBD's SLC #101 silk challenge, but I just ran out of time. I did want to try the faux silk technique, so I decided to incorporate it into my card. Also from last week, I had printed out the Papertake Weekly sketch but that's as far as I got on that challenge entry! So when I sat down to stamp, the first thing I saw was the sketch, so that became the basis of my challenge entry.
Here's the sketch:
I wanted to use a couple of the newer ODBD sets called "Grunge Cross" and "Never Give Up." I was drawn to the never give up sentiment as I went through my ODBD stamps. It was so hard to pick a favorite! I really like the way the cross has all of these swirls and intricate details. The image and sentiments are also fitting for either masculine or feminine cards.
I decided to try to do the faux silk technique by scrunching up some white tissue paper and then stamping the cross image to make my own patterned paper. I don't have a Xyron sticker maker, so I elected to wrap the tissue paper around a piece of white cardstock and adhere the tissue paper to the back so the adhesive wouldn't show through on the front of the faux silk panel. Here's what the panel looked like before I nearly entirely covered it up with the other layers!
Next, I just added the layers as illustrated in the sketch and then added just a bit of color with some flowers. I made the large flower using a Sizzix die.
Here's a closer view of the image and sentiment.
I took a side view photo so you can see the dimension on the flower a little better. This card will definitely be placed in a little box to be delivered!
Supplies
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs "Grunge Cross" and "Never Give Up"
Ink: Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Papers: brown for card base, white, dps from Basic Grey's "Little Black Dress" collection (including mat papers used for image and dps)
Other: twine from stash, Martha Stewart punches (leaf and fern), Sizzix "Tattered Florals" Tim Holtz die, Recollections mini rose, Recollections pearl for center of big flower, foam tape
Technique: faux silk
Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings,
Sarah

With Love
I finally have another card to post on my much neglected blog! I hadn't made a card for about 6 weeks, so it was a bit of a challenge to dust off the stamping cobwebs and create something. I started with a great sketch by Dawny from Papertake Weekly.
I then set out to combine a few of my favorite challenges, since for Basic Grey Challenge 59, ODBDSLC90 and SNTODBD50, the current challenge is Anything Goes. My Basic Grey papers are all from an older collection called "Lily Kate." (Well, I think they are all from that collection - the binding on my little 6 x 6 pad has fallen apart since I've nearly used the entire pack, but these sheets were tucked in there, so I think that is the correct collection!) Since I was playing along at Our Daily Bread Designs, it was the perfect chance to ink up this new clover image from "Simple Things."
This card is going to be going to my Dad as a thank you for Christmas. He is a farmer, so the clover image is perfect for him. I tried not to go too girly on it and just added touches of pink (coordinates with the tiny pink flowers in the dp) and just a tiny bit of ribbon. :) He knows I like ribbon!
Supplies:
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs "Simple Things" clover image and "Poinsettia Tag" (I inked just the With Love off of the With Love From sentiment on the tag set)
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black (image), Vintage Photo Distress Ink (sponging), SU! Cameo Coral marker for sentiment
Other: Copic markers, Bow Easy, satin ribbon from stash, MFT scallop border dienamics die, sponge
Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings,
Sarah

Faith
Hi! Tonight I'm back to share a card that I made for 5 challenges. I started with Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge 70 which is a sketch challenge and added ODBD Stamping in Time Challenge 40 to use a doily. Then I turned to CR84FN for color inspiration, The Shabby Tea Room #73 requires us to use at least 3 dps, and at Papertake Weekly, anything goes!
Here's my card. My gray (Bazzill "flintstone") is maybe a little bit too dark, but the only other gray I had was so pale that it almost appeared a pale lavender.
I started with a 6" square white cardstock base and then added a 5 7/8" square green panel on top of it. I stitched around the edge of that base green panel as well as the individual squares. The squares are cut at 1 3/4" square which leaves about 1/8" borders.
I was thinking a lot about my Mom as I made this card. As those of you who regularly read my blog know, she died the day after my birthday back in April due to a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung). It is still just unbelievable to me that she is gone. I was using my trusty old Elna sewing machine to do the stitching on this card and agonizing about trying to get the stitching to be exactly straight and uniform. I remembered Mom's lessons in sewing (she was a home ec teacher for over 30 years) about using the edge of the presser foot to keep the stitches straight and so on. I'm definitely moving forward in the grieving process, but I just have to remember to have faith. I just was entirely unprepared to suddenly lose my Mom at age 66. She would have been 67 in July, and it would have been my parents' 40th wedding anniversary on July 24th. So those days were harder ones for us.
I used the gray to make a doily with 2 different Shapeabilities dies. The doily I left as it was, but the other parts layered below were cut apart and layered from the other dies in that set. Here's a closer look.
Supplies:
Stamps: ODBD "Faith"
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Papers: white cardstock base, all 3 dps (speckly green, lavender with small print, lilac print) are from K & Co.'s "Watercolor" collection, gray is Bazzill Basics "Flintstone"
Other: MS butterflies punch, Recollections pearls, sewing machine, Nestabilities circle die, Spellbinders Shapeabilities "Parisian Motifs"
Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings!

American Girl
I combined several challenges for this card. The layout is based on the Mojo Monday sketch for this week, number 198.
I took my color inspiration and general theme of the card from this week's The Shabby Tea Room Challenge of red, white, and blue.
Finally, at Papertake Weekly Challenge, this week, anything goes!
Here's my 4th of July influenced card. I know that Tilda is from Sweden, but I think she looks pretty cute perched on her glittery cupcake in her red, white, and blue outfit.
I took a couple of closeups to show some of the details a bit more clearly. I made this flag rosette embellishment using a MFT scoring die, a star punched using a Creative Memories large star punch and heavily coated in crystal stickles glitter, some aluminum foil that I cut into thin strips, and a flag button from my stash.
Supplies used:
Stamps: Tilda, Cupcake stamp both from Magnolia
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Papers: SU! Real Red, SU! Brilliant Blue (ret.), American Girl strip cut from American Girl 12x12 pad from Michael's
Copic markers: E000, E00, E01, R20, R29, R37, R59, B24, B29, E51, E53, C1, C3, B0000
Other: white gel pen, Cuttlebug "Once Upon a Princess" cupcake embossing folder from set, MS hearts border punch, MFT rosette die, Creative Memories large star punch, Aluminum foil, Stickles glitter "Crystal," flag button from stash, ribbon from stash, sewing machine
ETA: Thank you so much to TSTR for selecting my card as one of the honorable mentions for this challenge! It really means a lot to have my card selected. Thank you!!

Here's my 4th of July influenced card. I know that Tilda is from Sweden, but I think she looks pretty cute perched on her glittery cupcake in her red, white, and blue outfit.
I wanted a wider red, white, and blue ribbon, so I took the ribbon I had (shown on left below), laid it down on some scor-tape, and then ran it back to make it double the original width (shown on right below). There was a little white border against the blue stripe originally, so I took one of my Copic markers and colored over that white edge.
I also finished the inside of this card using a quick little panel with a punched edge.
Finally, on the back, I added another punched border along with my personalized stamp from Scrapmagasinet. It reads "Handmade with love by Sarah with love and smiles just for you."
