ODBDSLC37

For ODBDSLC37, the challenge was to make anything but a card.  I've seen so many cute treat boxes made with Nestabilities, but I'd never tried one myself, so I thought I'd give that project a try.

Here's my little box.

I used my favorite Nestie labels and cut two red ones using the largest die.  Then I made a little box and used Scor-tape to attach the top of the box to one label and the bottom of the box to the other label.  It was really easy!

I used a sentiment from ODBD's "Poinsettia Bundle" for my top and sponged around the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink while the cutout was still in the die frame.

The inside - filled with dark chocolate Hershey kisses.  Yum!

Thanks Fairy Much

I combined 4 challenges on this card.  I used the layout from this week's Mojo Monday, the color combination from The Shabby Tea Room's lavender and lace challenge, at Cute Card Thursday, anything goes, and 7 Kids College Fund has a thank you challenge

First, here's the sketch.

Next, the inspiration photo from TSTR.

Finally, here's my card.

I used "Enchanted Lily" by Pink Cat Studio.  The dp is by K & Co.  It was a pretty gray day here, so the lighting wasn't the best and it looks more grayish in the photo than in real life.  I distressed the edges, and added a little zigzagging like in the Mojo sketch.  The "lace" is a MS border punch and I layered some lavender ribbon on top.  The bow was tied with my Bow Easy.  I colored Lily with Copics and then just added a few roses to go along with the floral theme.

Here's a closeup of the flowers.  The biggest rose is a Prima and the others are Recollections.  I use a knitting needle to curl the wires on the little roses. The leaves are a MS punch.

ODBDSLC36 Be Still

The current Shining the Light Challenge at ODBD is to use gold or silver cording, craft hemp, or string on our projects.  I decided to use hemp.

I knit a small panel using the hemp.  I wanted to have the juxtaposition of the rough hemp and roughness of the distressing (both tearing and sponging) against the elegance of the pearls and the beauty of the flowers.  I love this verse as it is a reminder that in the hectic times and crazy days that we need to take time and know that God is directing our paths and guiding us.

I stamped the verse using Versafine Onyx Black and the distressing is done with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I used a Tim Holtz distress tool to rough up the edges of the K&Co. dp and the sentiment panel and mat.  I only have 1 pearl flourish and it was too big for this card.  I wanted to cut it apart, but I just couldn't bring myself to cut it, so I tried to create my own using the Recollections pearl strips from Michael's.

I took a few closeups too.  These flowers are some oldies from my stash.

Lots of distressing!  The sentiment is from ODBD's Scripture Collection 3

ODBDSNT21 My Favorite

The current Stamping in Time challenge at ODBD is to use your favorite embellishment on a project.  Well, if you've visited my blog or my SCS gallery even once before, you already know that my favorite embellishments are flowers followed closely by ribbon.

I used Jen's SFYTT from 10/30/10 as the basis for my layout.  I really liked this sketch and just didn't have time to play with it during the actual week it was revealed.

Here's my card using Scripture Collection 3 from ODBD, a double silk ribbon bow tied with my Bow Easy, and of course, some flowers.  The sentiment is stamped in Versafine Onyx Black, and the edges of the sentiment are inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink while the Nestie die was still in place to create the white border.  All of the papers are from Basic Grey's "Bittersweet" collection.  I added a border strip punched with a MS punch, but it is kind of buried in the back.

A few closeups of the flowers!   They are all from Michael's.

I have been so blessed this past week.  Not only was my Rejoice card chosen as a SLC feature card, but it was also picked as one of the weekly favorites in the SCS forum.  When I made that card, I was afraid that I'd done waaaaaaaaay too much embellishing, but I was happy with it when I got it completed.  I was so honored that others also enjoyed that creation.  Another card I made last week, the CAS Merry Christmas card found in this post was picked in the CAS favorites of the week thread on SCS.  It just seemed rather ironic that I was favorited for both an embellished card and a CAS card in the same week!  {giggle}  But wow, I'm so flattered and humbled to be included amongst the other stampers who I've admired for many years.

Also, thank you to my commenters.  Your comments really do make my day!  I'm going to try to carve out a little bit of time each day for commenting as I don't do that nearly often enough for others.

Thanks for looking and may you be richly blessed!
Sarah

Edited to add:  I'm so excited that I won this week's gift certificate to ODBD!  Thank you, Kelley!  I can't wait to go shopping.  : D

A Mojo Monday Country Kitchen

This week's challenge at TSTR was "Country Kitchen."  We were supposed to use this photo as our inspiration.

I was inspired by the color combination of red, turquoise, and white.  I used dp from DCWV's "Berry Street Farmer's Market" stack.  It has a slight textured finish to it.  I thought this little mouse was so sweet, so I just cut out that image, sponged the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, distressed it with a Tim Holtz distressing tool, and then stitched around the panel.  I hand cut the little scalloped border at the top from another of the papers in this stack (it was a border going all the way around the 12 x 12 page originally).  The white scalloped border was cut with a mini scalloped scissors.  Can't remember the last time I used decorative edged scissors!  The turquoise paper is also from the same stack and that was as close as I could get to polka dotted paper in the right colors.  The ribbon is red satin, tied with a Bow Easy and topped with a tan button and a bit of twine.

Here's a closeup of the printed panel so you can see the textured carstock and details a bit better (I hope!)

The "Thanks" sentiment is a freebie stamp I got a while ago with a Verve order.  I wasn't sure how well the textured paper would take the Versafine Onyx Black ink, but it came out nicely.

I used the Week 163 Mojo Monday sketch for the layout, but because my image was so large, my card size is 6 and 7/8" by 5 and 1/2".  I had originally planned to make it 8.5" x 5.5", but the proportions were just not working!

I also finished the inside of the card with some scraps of the dp and on the back I added my personalized label stamp.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed evening!

HYCCT31 - I Made it to the End!

So I finally finished my last HYCCT challenge card.  This one was actually the hardest challenge for me in some ways.  We were to pick our inspiration from any of the items in the Etsy Treasury.  I spent waaaaaaaay too much time looking at all of the great items!  I finally decided to use this green and pink jewelry as my color inspiration.

I took my layout from SC305, but I made a 6 x 6 card instead of a 4.25" square card.  The papers are all from K & Co. and the sentiment and flowers are all from Verve's "Believe" set.  I stamped the image in Versafine Onyx Black, the flowers are in SU! Rose Red, and the stems and sponging are in SU! Old Olive.
I distressed the dp edges with a Tim Holtz distressing tool and then did some machine stitching.

Here's a closeup of the flower.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day!

Rejoice! ODBDSLC35

The current Shining the Light Challenge at ODBD is "Your Choice."  The choices for this challenge are using sparkle, dies or punches, and texture.  You must use at least one of the three given choices.

I decided to try and incorporate all three choice elements.  I used a sentiment from ODBD "Christmas Verses" which I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black, cut out with Nesties, and embossed.  The background is a scored panel that I made with my Scor-Pal using 1/2" intervals for the score line.  I added some lace, ribbon, and roses for additional texture and then added some bling for sparkle.

Here are some closeups of the flowers and lace.

Thanks for stopping by!  May you be richly blessed!
Sarah

Edited to add:  I'm still pinching myself, but it's true, my "Rejoice" card was chosen as one of the featured cards for this challenge!  Thank you!
